Early production, model 36/401 easy chair, by Alvar Aalto for Artek, Hedemora, ca 1950. Frame of steam bent birch and later upholstery in a grey wool fabric commissioned by the original owner. It has a very special provenance. This single owner example was in the collection of Ernst Sundh and his family, the founder & owner of the Artek factory in Hedemora, Sweden. The Hedemora factory took over all production for Artek between 1946-1956 after World War II due to the lack of material in Finland while rebuilding the country after that dramatic event. This exact example is depicted in the book; Aalto och Artek i Hedemora, page 169, where it is shown in the home of the original family.
Very good condition with light ware on the fabric.
