Pair of stained dark brown (almost black) vintage Chiavari chairs with newly upholstered leather seats, ca 1950. Most of the frame has lathed details. The leather is vintage so will have some nice light patina. Good vintage condition with light ware consistent with age and use.
The first Chiavari chair was originally designed in the 1807 by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi who was a cabinetmaker in the small town Chiavari, hence the name of the chair. Soon after that many companies in that region started to produce this model who very fast became very popular and soon it was known as the Chiavari chair and has been produced ever since.
